AG office in Palm Beach

In response to Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum signing on to a brief in support of Arizona’s controversial and racist legislation SB 1070, the legislation SB 1070, the Palm Beach County Coalition for Immigrant Rights will be hosting a rally outside of McCollum’s West Palm Beach office (1515 North Flagler Dr, Suite 900) on Saturday, July 31st at 5:00 p.m. in solidarity with other immigrant communities nationwide who demand Arizona SB 1070 be repealed. Similar actions will be taking place in Tallahassee as well as Miami.

From Homestead, FL to Brooklyn, NY, and from Valencia, Spain to Phoenix, Arizona, solidarity actions will be taking place in what has been named the “National Week Against Criminalization.”

The passage of SB1070 in Arizona and McCollum’s actions against Florida’s immigrants is a wakeup call for the federal government to act immediately to pass a just and humane Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill, and a wakeup call to communities of conscience statewide to take action in defense of human and civil rights for all who reside within its borders.

As SB1070 is set to go in effect on July 29th pending an injunction filed by the U.S. Department of Justice and a Friendly House class action complaint, the Palm Beach County Coalition for Immigrant Rights stands with over thirty ally organizations and immigrant communities countywide to declare our opposition to SB1070 in Arizona as well as our opposition to similar bills being crafted by Florida legislators.
