West Palm Beach, FL - by Jeanne Martin - Israeli artist Zammy Migdal and German artist Gudrun Kemsa work in very different media but share an interest in movement as a metaphor for the deeper meanings found behind surface and appearance. The Armory Art Center will be hosting an opening reception for these distinguished artists on October 24th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

❖     Zammy Migdal, a native of Tel Aviv, Israel, has created a language in metal that transforms spaces and walls into shapes, colors and shadows. In his work, energy flows to form clarity, definition, and purpose. He shapes metal into forms, but it is the emptiness inside the forms that holds the shadows. While some of his very architectural work is firmly grounded on Earth, other work has its origins in his interest to suspend objects against gravity. Such work is created by the relationships among metal foregrounds, attaching pins, spaces, light and shadows, in which hard metal resembles ribbons that flow and twist in the wind.

❖     Gudrun Kemsa’s photographic works and Video Installations are depictions of space, time and movement. Her eye is focused on urban space where she documents the course of events in streets and in open public places. Her video installations are designed as large projections for indoor or outdoor spaces. In their actions and timelines, they lead the viewer to experiences of space and time. Since 2002, Kemsa has been producing video works in analogy to human vision, this is done in constant motion. Her indoor video installations at the Armory will range from works done in the Ruhr valley of her native Germany to works produced in China and the US.

These two shows will run from October 25th until December 6th, 2014.

Zammy Migdal is also showing large polychrome steel sculptures from
